I usually write a good amount of notes whenever I’m assigned to review a show. Clairo’s Sling tour left me mesmerized and it was hard to find the words to describe how gorgeously produced it was—seriously, all that I had written in my notes app was “NICE”.
The Greek theater was the perfect host for this tour. Being able to hear the musical softness of Clairo during a dazzling Los Angeles night was dreamlike. If handmade paper lanterns illuminating the stage wasn’t enough, Clairo and her bandmates appeared draped in matching Celine. Performances like this are incredible to witness, especially for those who’ve seen Clairo’s high school webcam covers on YouTube. As she performed her new folky sound with works such as “Harbor”, a sea of phone flashlights swayed and washed over the entire theater. Her second studio album Sling is her first chart topper, and the serious production behind this tour highlights the maturity of Clairo as a musician. Still, she ended on her two pop throwback hits “Pretty Girl” and “Sofia”, which added even more to the nostalgic, look-how-far-we’ve-come moment. To best summarize what the Los Angeles crowd experienced last night, it was like a nice dream you hope to never wake up from.
