Samia played an electric sold out show at the iconic Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco, alongside her band and opener Wormy. At 26 years old, Samia Finnerty is the perfect intersection of Lucy Dacus meets Japanese Breakfast. Playing songs from her latest album, “Honey,” she wove in between emotional ballads like Pink Balloon, Breathing Song, To Me It Was to vibrant pop moments with Honey, Amelia, and Big Wheel.
Original opener Tommy Lefroy was unable to make the show and was replaced by Wormy (who happens to also be Samia’s drummer). Samia’s relationship with her band was evident as she came out to sing alongside Wormy during his set and immediately introduced the remaining members just after the second song.
With no barricade, fans were able to get up close and personal with the hope of interacting with Samia (which she happily did several times throughout the set). Throughout the set, Samia was physically taken aback by the amount of support and cheers from the audience. After profusely thanking the crowd for a sold out show, she joked, “What is happening? You all came here for me? Are you sure?”.
Based on her soft spoken nature, you would think she doesn’t like to draw attention to herself – that is until she starts performing. Her lively dance moves moved with the music however she saw fit throughout the set and juxtaposed her lyrics of young adulthood existentialism. The live versions of each song transcended the audience and truly captured the concept of dancing and singing like nobody’s watching.
