Every once in awhile something really special happens. We’ve all been there at some point in our concert going journeys. I’m talking about that connective moment where you’ve decided to get to the show early and ‘see what the openers are all about.’ For any of you would-be-skipping-the-openers out there, take heed. Jagwar Twin, currently—and surprisingly to me—opening for lovelytheband, totally stole the show for me.
We’re at a point in life where it’s silly to think you can judge what kind of band you’re about see based on their fashion choices or hair styles. And while admittedly I can’t tell whether Jagwar Twin visually feels like more of a folk band, a fresh indie rock group or a vintage appeal pop quartet, it really doesn’t matter. It’s about the music. It’s about the process. And it’s about connecting with our fellow human race through music—even if only for an eight-song setlist.
When a band actually stands for something more than the superfluous and self-indulgent materialistic crap our capitalist and social media driven society is currently mucking through, it’s inspiring. We need more bands like Jagwar Twin who spread messages of positivity, love, encouragement and community at their shows. Hearing the crowd chant along, “D-R-E-A-M Dream, You Gotta Dream” during the song ‘Dream / Dream’ was honestly fucking surreal in the best way. Even though this band hasn’t been around too long yet, fans are connecting hard with their songs and messages.
From pop songs to totally sick guitar solos to sweet serenades, Jagwar Twin is mastering their multi-genre sound. Whatever is next for these guys I only hope they bring the same love and passion they have right now. It’s a beautiful thing.
