A name that should require no introduction in these parts, Liz Phair returned to her stomping ground this past Saturday. So, does she still have it? Well, yeah sure. If it is the repetitive strumming of bar chords while wearing a sexy outfit. Which let’s be real, will sell records and please most crowds.
A band once celebrated by local Alternative station Q101, Phair now hears herself when tuning in to Chicago’s Finest Rock of 93.1 fm (I find this particularly interesting from the woman with a song Hot White Cum). This transition has brought generations to her sound—and to her show. While personally I felt the band was lacking in engagement due to the absence of on-stage antics and personality, I was extremely impressed by how so many very different people were connecting on the deepest of levels. Men and women, young and old, bearded or even bald all sang along hands in air. The road may have changed but the riffs have remained the same.
